OBJECTIVE: Participation in the City Championships (Stadtsportmeisterschaften) allows for positive representation of ISD in the local educational community, observation of sport programs in the German school system and establishment of relationships between institutions. OVERVIEW: The city of Düsseldorf , in collaboration with the state of North Rhein Westphalia, runs a series of annual mini-tournaments in a multitude of sports for middle and high-school aged children. These are short, one-day events which take place during school hours. The winners of each one-day round usually advance on to another round, until a “state-champion” is determined. The state champion then gets to play for the national championship, held each year in Berlin . Competitions can include table tennis, judo, track and field, soccer, badminton, tennis, volleyball, gymnastics, basketball, chess, swimming, rowing and hockey.
EXPECTATIONS: Students must make up all missed work when absent from school due to competitions, parents may be asked to drive to the competitions. REGISTRATION: The Coordinator of City Championships registers the participating teams. Students do not have any additional paperwork to fill out. FEES: None |
